This review is for Bandai Premium Fashion’s Kamen Rider Drive official Chase jacket. It originally retailed for 24,840 yen and was released in 2014.
This jacket is an asymmetrical-cut pleather motorcycle jacket. It is made primarily from metallic purple pleather. The collar is a very dark purple cotton, while the shoulders are made from yet another purple matte pleather.
The front of the jacket has many chains and studs of various shapes and sizes. It’s gaudy: you’ll either love it or hate it.
The back is what sold me on the jacket. There is a tire track heat-imprinted on the pleather across the back. This car-related design touch sets this jacket apart from the others in the Drive series. In addition, the tire track incorporates a bat as a nod to Mashin Chaser.
The sleeves are also nicely detailed: if you look closely, a matte pleather has been sewn down the sleeves in a curved pattern.
I have only one complaint. This jacket has only one pocket… and it’s fake. It’s just a flap sewn on and a button. Is it really that expensive for Bandai to add pockets behind flaps?
To sum it up, the asymmetrical-cut pleather jacket is a Premium Bandai anti-hero staple, but they found a way to make this one unique. The detailing on this jacket is top-notch, and I appreciate the subtle show references it incorporates. The design may not be for everyone, but there are no issues with quality or construction. However, like all pleather jackets, it needs additional care and with normal wear will only last 3-5 years. Nevertheless, if you like the design and the character or Kamen Rider Drive in general, I highly recommend this jacket.
